The Carbon Trust Calculator is a good approach for organisations to use, with several caveats. First, it is in more complete form at the website Act on CO2. Second, an organisation may be required to file a footprint as part of the Carbon Disclosure Project. If so, there is no merit in doing the footprint twice, so my advice is to determine how the CDP footprinting works. Finally, DEFRA have published a draft Greenhouse Gas Protocol businesses in particular should see first before heading down any footprinting pathway.

My reason for providing these caveats is that there is a glut of carbon calculators appearing, as well as carbon reduction organisations. Businesses might rationalise their reduction efforts by looking first at the CBI and BITC programmes and then tailoring their Cambridge Climate Change Charter responses to these national business programmes.
